Cam chat, explained

Cam chat just means the conversation happens through cameras instead of a text box. Here that is two cameras and two people: hers, which you can watch before you ever press call, and yours, which nothing on this site will switch on for you.
Three things the phrase covers
People arrive expecting one of these and find another, which is where most of the disappointment in this category comes from. Here they are, plainly.

You look at the list of people who are online, watch one of them on live video, and call her if you want to. The call stays between the two of you, your own camera is a switch you control, and looking costs nothing. That is the whole of it.

None of the three is a scam and none is better in the abstract — they are different rooms, and the words on the tin do not tell you which one you have walked into. This one is the third.

This is where most calls start. Her camera is live, your pane is dark, and she sees exactly what you would see from a phone with the lens covered — nothing. It is an honest way to spend a first minute: you are working out whether this is the conversation you came for, and you can leave without ever having been on screen.

Watching someone live is real information. It is the difference between a photo that could be five years old and a person reacting to something you just said. What it is not is an identity check, and this site does not run one: no ID is collected, no approval process exists, and there is no badge to hand out because nothing would be behind it. You get a live picture and your own judgement about it — more than a profile grid gives you, and less than a promise.
